Ascension Island 1 Hayes Fort

Photos uploaded September 24th but blog posted 29th

At last some photos from our trips to Ascension Island. In fact these were mostly taken when we visited in 2009.

Hayes Fort was built in1860 on the site of an earlier battery and is now part of the museum.

You get some good views from the fort of Georgetown, the capital of Ascension Island, but the size of a small village.

In 2009 we stayed at the obsidian hotel in the middle of the town but this year we rented a bungalow next to the beach just below Hayes Fort.

You can also see the pierhead and one of the town's beaches. Unfortunately, because of the huge swell and strong undercurrents it is not safe to swim here.
